Cheap iPhone app lets you create time-lapsed movies

A 99-cent iPhone app called Timelapser lets you set your phone to snap a pic anywhere from once every three seconds to once every half hour. Acer announced this week its Acer Aspire One AOD250, which dual-boots into either Windows or Android. Nice! But what is it?

By definition (admittedly my own), a netbook is a very small laptop that runs a desktop operating system, such as Windows or Linux. A smartbook, on the other hand, is a mobile laptop-like computer that runs a cell phone operating system, such as Android, iPhone OS, Web OS or Windows Mobile.

The Aspire One is both a floor wax and a dessert topping; both a netbook and a smartbook; both a good thing and a bad thing.

Pepsi apologizes for sexist iPhone app

Sugar-water giant Pepsi, which sells a caffeine-laced concoction called AMP Energy, has apologized for releasing an iPhone app that provides suggested pick-up lines for “getting lucky” with 24 different types of women. It even has a “Brag List” function for automating the process of boasting about conquests on Twitter and Facebook.

A new iPhone app called Digital Sunscreen calculates proper sun exposure. You enter in your skin type, weather conditions and other data, then tell it when you’re out in the sun — it will tell you when it’s time to get back in the shade.

Everybody hates AT&T iPhone Exclusivity. Even AT&T!

This week, I wrote a column for Computerworld about how AT&T has been demonstrating an inability to handle iPhone traffic, which puts the company squarely in line with the desires of users, the FCC, competitive carriers and even Apple to end Apple’s exclusive arrangement for the iPhone.

Now, in yet another example of AT&T’s inability to handle iPhone, the company announced 3G upgrades to HSPA 7.2. Unfortunately, however, the company can’t yet roll out the new feature in its two biggest iPhone markets: San Francisco and New York City.

Looks like Apple’s Snow Leopard is a multi-touch OS

A few good Mac bloggers are digging up evidence that Apple’s Snow Leopard was designed to operate as an iPhone-like multi-touch operating system. For example, Expose looks to be “tailor-made for fingers,” according to Cult of Mac’s Leander Kahney. He also points out that the new virtual keyboard now expands all the way to full screen.

As I’ve been predicting for years, I believe 1) multi-touch tablets, convertable clam-shell laptops and desktops will all get multi-touch user interfaces; 2) Apple will be first and best in this space; and 3) it will start with a “new Newton” small tablet device, and grow in size from there until desktop versions are bigger than 40 inches.

I wrote two years ago that:

“Apple’s iPhone user interface is a glimpse of the future, not only of future Apple mobile computers, but desktops and the future of all PCs as well. It’s inevitable that Apple will ship a tablet Mac that works like the iPhone.”

Looks like my most frequently-made prediction is finally coming true. (Props to Cult of Mac and 9to5Mac)
